Flexible workforces 'are not problematic'

A flexible workforce does not jeopardise the delivery of large scale construction projects, according to one expert.
Simon Noakes, Chair of the REC's Construction Group emphasized the importance of flexible workers to respond to claims that a temporary workforce could put a project at risk.
He said that construction is a demand-led industry and working flexible is a choice for most of the workforce.
"It is crucial to move away from the perception that workers are systematically coerced into working on a flexible basis and that temporary and contract work is the source of all problems," he said.
This comes after Josie Perry, marketing and communications director at the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) said that employers now want increasingly skilled people working for them and apprenticeships are a great way to gain marketable ability.
She said that apprenticeships train people in the skills employers want while really helping out the employer too.
