Flexible IT contractor roles 'can reduce workplace stress'
Use of flexible workers, such as IT contractors, can help workplaces to reduce stress levels and increase productivity.

This is the view of Dr Ken Beaumont, principal consultant and manager at Workforce Logistics, who believes that even small changes in working patterns can help employees reduce their stress levels.

He goes on to say that the more flexible working patterns that employers can offer, the more likely the firm is to benefit from a happier workforce.

Dr Beaumont now wants the government to look at the rules regarding flexible working and make it easier for employees to switch to more favourable working conditions.

He explained: "The employee currently has to put a case [forward stating] why they should be allowed flexible working.

"Good employers will permit flexible working where it is possible [if] it doesn't affect the business."

Employment relations minister Edward Davey recently announced the government will be looking at the flexible working issue and whether new legislation needs to be introduced.
