Firms told to embrace ecommerce 'or get left behind'
Companies have been advised they must learn to embrace the world of ecommerce or get left behind, which could create job roles for IT contractors.

A recent report from the Boston Consulting Group found that the UK online economy contributed around £100 billion in 2009, accounting for 7.2 per cent of GDP.

It went on to predict that the ecommerce industry would continue to grow by ten per cent each year.

However, Interactive Media in Retail Group managing director David Smith said that this would appear to be quite a conservative estimate.

He points out that eretail is still growing and that in itself, as part of the whole ecommerce industry, could expect to grow ten per cent each year on its own.

"Those businesses that are not embracing the technology to be able to join the circle between whichever way their customer is actually attracted to them, they will be left behind," Mr Smith warned.
