Firms expected to replace computer hardware
IT contractors may see more businesses looking to upgrade their desktop computers in 2010, claims a computing research organisation.

While technology spending in 2010 will be limited, many companies could be expected to follow through with long-delayed plans to upgrade their hardware, according to the National Computing Centre (NCC).

Cloud computing and software services should also experience growth, as firms see these as good options for avoiding outlay yet retaining flexibility, says Michael Dean, head of marketing at the NCC.

According to data from Forrester Research, the technology market is starting to recover from the recession, with the US IT economy expected to grow 8.4 per cent this year.

"With the UK economy lagging in recovery behind the US, tech spending will not be so spectacular," warned Mr Dean.

Separate research from US firm Gartner indicates that global IT spending is expected to increase by 5.3 per cent in 2010.
