Firms' data security policies 'must be converged'

IT contractors need to make companies aware of the need for a converged security within their departments, according to a special interest group.
As security policy becomes more complex, it can become difficult for disparate departments of the business to communicate, according to the Security Awareness Special Interest Group (Sasig).
The group believes modern companies should see their security policies as a chain which is only as strong as its weakest link.
In this respect it is important that departments talk to each other, Sasig claims.
"Organisations are facing criminals and other organisations from the outside and the threats are increasingly sophisticated and motivated. We have to respond by increasing the co-ordinating, concerted response," said Martin Smith, chairman and founder of Sasig.
A paper recently published by, among others, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the National Federation of Fraud Forums, also highlighted the business benefit of using a converged security policy.
