Employment sector 'could take ten years to fix'

IT contractors have been warned that it could take ten years for the employment market to recover to pre-recession levels.
According to Stephen Overell, associate director of the Work Foundation, the need to cut the budget deficit is going to have a major impact on public sector jobs.
In addition, private sector companies that rely on government contracts will also suffer, resulting in further job losses, he claims.
Mr Overell goes on to suggest that it remains to be seen whether the private sector can absorb these job losses.
He explained: "If there is quite a strong growth, then it is possible that the private sector will mop up the jobs.
"If there is not, or if there is any double-dip recession, then it could be very, very serious for jobs."
According to the latest figures from the Office for National statistics, the number of people in employment is 241,000 higher than this time last year, but 270,000 lower than two years ago.
