Employment growth 'slows to worst rate in a year'
IT contractors may be concerned to hear that the employment growth rate is continuing to slow.

According to the latest Report on Jobs from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC), growth in temporary worker billings has eased to an 11-month later.

While the rate still remains positive, the REC's chief executive Kevin Green says they are the worst seen for some time and the government must now step in to prevent unemployment starting to rise again.

He explained: "This must include avoiding new regulation that could restrict businesses and jobs growth.

"How the government decides to implement the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) will be its first major test in cutting red tape on business."

The REC recently raised concerns over AWR at the Conservative Party Conference, saying that temporary workers such as IT contractors play a vital role in the UK economy, while temporary placements are a great way to get the unemployed back into work.
