Employers are 'neglecting the well-being of workers'
Many IT contractors feel that their employers have neglected their well-being during the economic downturn, according to a new survey.

Almost half of the workers polled by Simplyhealth felt that stress had increased due to fears over job losses, while a third felt that the creation of a "work all hours" culture had affected their wellbeing.

"Businesses have understandably been under a considerable strain over the past months, but it is clear from our research that employee wellbeing needs to be high on the agenda for employers," said Jamie Wilson, spokesman for Simplyhealth.

Dr Clare Kelliher of the Cranfield School of Management said in reaction to the survey that while managers might not have a clear picture of how employees felt, it was important for them to create the right atmosphere in the office.

"Treating people with dignity and respect goes a long way to foster similar behaviours in return. Managers can act as role models for their organisations," she added.
