David Cameron praises contractors on National Freelancers Day
Prime minister David Cameron has spoken of his support for those in the freelance sector on National Freelancers Day.

In a letter to PCG, Mr Cameron praised the courage of the 1.4 million contractors working in the UK today and said that their contribution to the country's economy was massive.

He said that the government is behind the increasing number of people opting for a freelance lifestyle which, he said, strikes the right work-life balance.

"I can't tell you how much admiration I have for people who leave the comfort of a regular wage to strike out on their own. It takes a lot of courage - and without that courage this country would be a much poorer place," he said.

This comes after PCG commissioned a survey, carried out by ComRes, which found the majority of businesses support freelancers.

It was also revealed that almost three-quarters of those polled had chosen freelancing as a long term career option.
