Data storage improvements 'may require IT contractors'
The UK needs to become smarter about how it deals with data storage, an expert has claimed, which could suggest new roles for IT contractors.

Alec Selvon-Bruce, eco-solutions champion for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Hitachi Data Systems, recently claimed that it is becoming more important for companies to consider how resilient their IT environments are.

He highlighted the fact that the UK may not have enough data centres to meet its current demand, as this was in question even before the downturn.

"I don't think we should be worried about the supply. What we should look at is how we provision content into the data centres. Let's get away from these economies of demand," he added.

Mr Selvon-Bruce added that the key aspect which IT contractors will be employed to tackle is how to do more with less.

Recent figures published by Symantec have shown that 83 per cent of enterprises rank security as somewhat or absolutely important, with 82 per cent considering using virtual machines during 2010.ADNFCR-2994-ID-19632845-ADNFCR
