IT contractors and other web users will continue to utilise Google unless a very drastic change is made to the system.

Jake Hird, senior research analyst at Econsultancy, said that unless the company made a massive change that people did not like, they would continue to use the search engine.

He added that the effect Google Instant has had on searches is still quite uncertain.

"As far as I can see the only major impact it's had is just purely on the impressions that sites are getting now, especially in paid search, so that does affect them from a quality score, because you get more impressions on your ad and less clicks," he said.

Meanwhile, magazine Fast Company reported that approximately 98 per cent of Google users are using the new Instant feature, with just two per cent opting out.
