Contractors 'should play music while working'
Contractors should play music while working in order to improve productivity and increase wellbeing, new research has indicated.

A study by mental health charity Mind has found that workers who listen to music during their morning commute are boosting their state of mind.

Additionally, 74 per cent of employees were found to listen to music when commuting while half reported it made them feel energised about the day ahead.

Francis McGinty, of the Stress Management Association UK, said that contractors should improve their knowledge of causes of stress and learn how to reduce it.

He explained that playing music in the workplace can have many benefits for contractors and other professionals.

"Some music sets up sound vibrations in the brain that promotes the release of the feel-good neuro-chemicals such as dopamine that causes this effect. Also on a subconscious level, familiar music can act as a trigger to past experiences and this also promotes the brain to relax as it remembers pleasant experiences," elaborated Mr McGinty.
