Contractors 'largely unaffected' by tax relief recommendations
If changes to the UK's tax reliefs go ahead, contractors will be largely unaffected, one website has claimed.

According to Contractor Collective, if tax relief recommendations put forward by the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) are picked up by ministers, contractors will be largely unaffected.

However, the OTS' recent report did look at deeper issues such as employee benefits, expenses and capital gains tax.

The report looks closely at 155 tax exemptions, recommending that 54 stay in place, 73 are subject to further analysis and 47 are cut, with a further 17 recommended to be simplified.

John Whiting, Tax Director for the Office of Tax Simplification, said: "It's clear that many of the reliefs are valuable and clear in their purpose and operation, so we have not sought to change them, but others need simplifying or extending to be properly effective."

Meanwhile, Kim Stephenson, financial psychologist and creator of Taming the Pound, has said that contractors must face their debt and not lie to themselves about how much they owe, otherwise escaping it will be more difficult than it is already.
