Construction contractors have 'important role' in Green Deal

Freelance contractors working in the construction industry such as builders and handymen have an essential role to play in achieving the government's Green Deal.
The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has encouraged ministers to outline and define how the Green Deal is reflected in the energy bill, particularly recognising the role residential home improvements can play.
FMB director general Richard Diment noted that there needs to be greater incentives for carrying out energy efficient works, such as lower VAT and lower council tax for retrofitted homes.
He noted: "Setting out a plan for bringing the UK’s homes up to standard is crucial if the energy bill is to succeed.
"These incentives would help ensure that the Green Deal is a success and that the government can achieve its stated aim to be the greenest government ever."
The energy bill passed through its First Reading in parliament on March 15th, with the Second Reading scheduled for the Easter recess.
