Conservatives pledge IR 35 review

IT contractors could see the IR35 replaced with a simpler piece of tax legislation, according to a leading contractors' group.
Following lobbying from the Professional Contractors Group (PCG) the Conservative Party has committed to "take a fundamental review" of all small business matters if it were to win the general election, the PCG claims.
Conservative MP Mark Prisk told the group that the party was aware of how contractors and other freelancers had been treated by the government and they are committed to providing a "long-term fix" for the IR35 problem.
Reacting to Mr Prisks comments, Chris Bryce of the PCG said: "This shows that the Conservative Party has been listening to and understanding the messages that the PCG has given them.
"We believe this solution has the potential to lead to a fairer and more workable tax regime for the vast majority of those who work freelance."
The Recruitment & Employment Confederation also welcomed the Conservative Party commitment, saying that the right tax environment for contractors was essential for economic recovery.
