Cloud computing 'to boom in 2011'

Cloud computing will be a significant trend in 2011, according to one expert, which could mean more jobs for IT contractors.
Rob Lovell, chief executive officer at ThinkGrid said that cloud allows companies more choice and flexibility and is changing the way people access and pay for IT.
"Companies are asking themselves why they should continue with the status quo, making upfront capital expenditure investments and carrying all the risks associated with large scale IT implementations," he explained.
This comes after research by Gartner found that cloud computing is the top technology priority for chief information officers (CIOs) moving forward in 2011.
It was also revealed that CIOs plan to adopt cloud computing systems much faster than originally expected, with the percentage of those using it for the majority of their services rising from three per cent to 43 per cent over the next four years.
