Cloud computing 'can prevent absences affecting productivity'
Cloud computing can allow IT contractors and other staff to continue working in the face of travel crises, according to ThinkGrid.

The cloud computing firm says that the problems caused by the recent Icelandic volcano caught businesses unaware and they were not able to maintain productivity.

A virtualised network can keep firms productive by allowing employees remote access to all the data they need, says ThinkGrid's chief executive officer Rob Lovell.

"The effectively borderless nature of cloud computing can help businesses maintain productivity. Organisations can ensure that workers are able to continue to keep working as normal even if they can't get to the office," he explained.

According to the latest figures from absence management firm First Care, Monday April 19th saw an extra 20,000 people in the UK miss work due to the grounding of flights across Europe.

This is thought to have cost UK business over £3 million per day, the company claims.
