Cloud computing 'can increase SME flexibility'

IT contractors can help small to medium-sized businesses (SMEs) become more flexible and responsive by helping them incorporate cloud computing, it is claimed.
On-demand services such as cloud computing significantly reduce the amount of capital investment required, according to a Curtis+Cartwright consultant Max Hammond.
In addition, renting services or infrastructure only when it is needed can reduce inefficiency and make a company more flexible, he added.
However, there are additional risks to using external services and so the decision to use them needs careful consideration.
"It's important to conduct a careful analysis of your needs and to consider the risks involved in using external services it may not be any riskier than hosting your own systems, but you'll need to think that through," Mr Hammond added.
The news comes alongside a report by the International Data Corporation, which found that the value of the enterprise cloud server hardware market will reach £8.4 billion by 2014.
