Businesses must become more energy efficient, one expert stated, indicating that there could soon be more opportunities for contractors specialising in green matters.

David Powell, climate campaigner at Friends of the Earth, has said the government should put measures in place to help businesses access much needed funds so they are fiscally able to be more energy efficient.

"What we really need is a joined up way that businesses can access the cash that they need to put in place the investments. All businesses can borrow because this stuff is absolutely win-win and it pays back and it's good for the bottom line," he explained.

These comments follow a report by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs which found that British businesses could save around £23 billion per year by improving the way they utilise their energy and water and by making an effort to reduce waste.
