Businesses have 'lack of understanding' about cloud computing

IT contractors may need to do more to educate their employers about the security issues associated with cloud computing in the future, ThinkGrid has claimed.
The IT-on-demand company's chief executive officer Rob Lovell said there is still a lack of understanding of how secure technologies that allow flexible working are.
"However, when they understand that data is stored remotely in the cloud and is managed by a specialist company with a highly skilled team of IT professionals, it is actually far more secure than their typical office IT set-up," he commented.
Mr Lovell went on to say that the technology allows people to break free from the office and work any time and any place.
According to research by Ovum, security, cloud services and sustainability will be some of the biggest issues IT contractors will face in 2011.
The firm believes that the uptake of cloud computing next year is inevitable, although it is still "early days" for both providers and IT professionals.
