Budget 2010: IT contractors may benefit from income tax changes
IT contractors are set to benefit from changes to income tax rules outlined in yesterday's emergency Budget.

The personal income tax allowance is set to be increased by £1,000 in April, equivalent to £170 a year to basic rate taxpayers.

According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), this will be particularly beneficial to temporary workers.

REC chief executive Kevin Green explained: "Any temporary workers use agency work to dip in and out of work on a part time basis.

"The rise in the income tax threshold means that they will leave the agency at the end of the week with more money in their back pocket."

He also welcomed the commitment to reviewing new regulations set to be introduced that would affect agency and freelance workers.

In particular, Mr Green underlined the need for pension regulations relating to temporary workers to be reassessed, indicating that the current plans are "unsuited to the fast-paced dynamic temporary jobs market".ADNFCR-2994-ID-19853843-ADNFCR
