Banks join fight against online fraud and cyber crime

Job roles for IT contractors may be created as major banks join forces with Scottish Financial Crime Group to tackle web-based threats.
This week will see e-Crime Scotland being launched, an initiative that will seek to tackle the growing problem of online fraud and cyber criminality, according to the Scotsman.
Such theft can cost a big company as much as £1 million each day in lost business, the newspaper claims, which has prompted the financial institutions to get involved.
The initiative will be launched at the Scottish Financial Crime Group Conference tomorrow (October 28th), with speakers from Clydesdale Bank, Lloyds Banking Group and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
"All businesses should be looking to technology to help them be more efficient, customer-focused and profitable," Institute of Directors Scotland chairman Raymond O'Hare told the publication.
IT Governance chief executive Alan Calder claimed this week that complacency among IT departments regarding cyber crime could potentially be the biggest threat of all to national security.
