Although there has been slowdown in the demand for staff in the overall jobs market, the need for IT staff is continuing to increase according to the monthly “Report on Jobs” produced by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).

The main area of growth was within permanent placements for IT staff but encouragingly, there was growth in the IT contracting sector as well.

The Chair of REC Technology, Jeff Brooks said,“It is striking that, even at a time when the UK economy as a whole appears to be wobbling, demand for qualified IT professionals remains healthy.”

“It has long been clear that the jobs of the future will be in technical, highly-skilled areas such as IT. The current tremors in the job market only seem to be accelerating this trend.”

This must be considered good news for existing contractors or for those thinking of making a move into IT contracting.
